study description

In recent years, following several studies demonstrating the feasibility of emergency physician-performed transesophageal echocardiography (TEE), a number of institutions in the United States and Canada have developed Emergency Department-based TEE programs. In 2017, ACEP published a Policy Statement to provide guidelines for the use of TEE in the ED in cardiac arrest. Despite growing interest, there are a number of potential challenges in implementing this new modality.

MAIN KNOWLEDGE GAPS

  • NUMBER OF EMERGENCY DEPARTMENTS IN NORTH AMERICA CURRENTLY USING TEE

  • BARRIERS FOR ADOPTION OF RESUSCITATIVE TEE

  • INDICATIONS FOR WHICH TEE IS BEING USED IN THE EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT

  • TEE VIEWS AND PROTOCOL USED

  • DEVELOPMENT AND MAINTENANCE OF COMPETENCY IN RESUSCITATIVE TEE

  • CREDENTIALING STANDARDS FOR PROVIDERS TO PERFORM TEE

  • NUMBER OF EMERGENCY PHYSICIANS PERFORMING TEE

  • FREQUENCY OF STUDIES BEING PERFORMED

  • TRAINING / EXPOSURE OF EMERGENCY MEDICINE RESIDENTS

  • QUALITY ASSURANCE PROCESS FOR TEE STUDIES

How can you participate in this study?

In order to obtain data that is accurate depicts the current use and barriers for TEE in our field at large, we would like identify the right folks to answer this survey. Regardless of whether you have or don't have TEE, if you are the US director or have a similar role in your department (i.e. "the US person" for your ED), we ask you to please provide us with you contact information in the following form below.

https://forms.gle/C6Hkm7EeG5UAWnyx9

If you are not this person but know someone else in your ED that would be the right contact, we would appreciate if you can forward this information to them. Results from this survey will be made available to all participants prior to publication.

This short survey (<5min) will be distributed individually to all EM US Fellowship Directors and to all departmental US directors or leads from those EDs with no EM US fellowship.

Thank you for contributing with this important study.

Sincerely,
